A last-minute plan to escape the city this weekend carried Nate and me to my favorite outstate-Minnesota destination: Taylors’ Falls. I love the landscape there, the sense of timelessness and solidness that the dark cliffs and river create. It was my fourth trip there this year. This time, the trees were peaking with color — a beautiful finale to summer.

These are the things you do when you are home. You have dogs, you take the scenic tour to a lake on a Friday night, you stop to help children with their bikes, you compare this year’s weather to last’s. One year ago I moved here. Did I say that already? I think I did, but I can’t believe it. One year ago, and I’m glad I’m here.
