Ahh, Summer…
My definition of a good weekend is one in which you don’t have to do a single thing you don’t want to do. And that’s exactly what I did over the last four days. Here’s a recap of “Aaron’s Much Needed Weekend of Doing Whatever He Wants.”
Friday
- Lunch with the wonderful Dunner, who graced the Midwest with his presence, if only for a weekend. While we munched on salads, the waiter (a friend of mine) came to our table and in a hushed voice said, “Do you know who’s at that table over there?”
No, who?
“Bo. Derek.”
“Bo Derek? Who is he?”
- A lowkey bonfire and barbecue with my former roommates, which reminded me just how much I miss them.
Saturday
- The Rodeo: A hot sun and cold margarita-filled Gatorade bottles made for a good-and-drunk Aaron.
- That’s it. Just the rodeo. By 8 p.m. I was sober and had a nasty hangover. Hit the bed by 10 p.m. and slept until 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Sunday
- Lounged on the couch with a good book.
- A nice run in the cool morning.
- Finally watched “Fried Green Tomatoes,” 14 years after it was made. It was surprisingly good.
- Worked on a Web site.
- Beer and cornish pasties under the moonlight at Brit’s Pub.
Monday
- Rollerbladed around Lake Harriet.
- Pool party. Lots of food and volleyball.
- Walked from the pool to Nicollet Island where we made the grass our recliner and the fireworks our entertainment.
It doesn’t get any better than that.
