It’s not Grand, but it’s Pleasant

So you know how I moved to south Minneapolis in May? Well, I did. To a nice little apartment on aptly named Grand Avenue. And I like it there. I walk to the lakes, to some good coffeeshops (hooray for veggie burgers at Anodyne) and the streaker is an added benefit. Not that he’s been back, but the hope is still alive.

Life was grand on Grand Avenue until a month ago when our landlords sold the building and we received word that they would be turning our apartment into a condo. Aka, get the hell out.

(At this point, I must interject an editorial opinion that I know is blatantly false but I feel compelled to say anyway: Real estate agents are greedy scum.)

So my roommate and I, after much complaining, finally found a new place to live, one block to the east and about ten blocks north. We’re leaving Grand Avenue for the lesser riches but more homey feel of Pleasant Avenue. Our new duplex is larger, with a new kitchen, a beautiful sunroom, a garage, built-in buffets and natural woodwork. Combine that with the possibility for some cute neighbors and I suppose it could indeed be pleasant. After we get through the nastiness of moving, of course.

However, if we have to leave this one due to Condo Madness, Pleasant Avenue will not be so pleasant anymore.

Same thing happened to me one year ago. But my new place is at least comparable if not better. Seems like those with off-street parking are vulnerable to condomania though, so beware!

Just recently I was wondering how you were settling into the new place. Bah.

Oh, I hate moving so much, that is horrible to have to do it two times in one Summer. I do hope that your duplex on Pleasant will in fact be pleasant for you. Good luck, and lift with your legs!

E and I lived on Pleasant Avenue. Unfortunately it was unpleasant, and we escaped to Nordeast, but I think you're quite a bit farther south than where we lived. Good luck to you!

Do you have a month-to-month lease? Seems strange that they can kick you out after only a few months.

Yes ... I'm with Dunner ... one would think they'd at least have to honor whatever lease you have. Of course, if you found what you wanted in advance of that, I'm sure any landlord would let you out of the lease as it'd benefit you both.

They do have to honor any lease you have. If it doesn't expire for another 9 months or so, you can stay. If they try to kick you out, you can take them to court. Don't let them walk all over you!

We are on a month-to-month lease and they gave us until December to move out. We're moving in mid-August though so our new landlords don't get any more of our rent. And who wants to move in December?

You need to hire movers, preferably hot gay ones! Can I come watch them when they're there?

I just moved to Beard Ave., and my friend said, "Maybe that means that there are a bunch of closeted gay men in fake relationships with women there. More play for you!"
If only. Sigh.

In college I was involved in ex-gay ministries. The leader of the group had a nice house we would go to often to, you know, do manly things. Of course we were all (supposedly) celibate. But the name of the street his house was on? Climax Avenue.

I loved that.

Climax Ave., classic.
I had a friend looking to move into an apartment on Nathan Ln. once. The main reason to do so? The directions: "To get to my place, first you have to go down on Nathan Lane . . ."
