Tagged

Byf tagged me. Normally I ignore such requests but it’s 5 p.m. and while I don’t want to do any more work, my bus doesn’t leave for another 10 minutes. So here you go. I’m skipping the final part, though, and not tagging other people (thank me later).

The assignment: List five songs that you are currently digging — it doesn’t matter what genre they are from, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying right now. Post these instructions and the five songs (with artist) in your blog.

1. “Did You Get My Message” by Jason Mraz (fun!)
2. “Be Be Your Love” by Rachael Yamagata (who also is wonderful in song No. 1)
3. “Here Comes the Sun” by Nina Simone (way better than the Beatles version)
4. “Trouble” by Ray LaMontagne (can’t get this out of my head)
5. “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt (James: I couldn’t have said it better myself)

N. Simone is known for her concert antics and we were not disappointed when seeing her in Oakland during her last tour before she died. She performed "Here Comes The Sun" but had the audience sing the chorus. It's a long refrain for 3000 of us to keep up and she kept getting pissed, stopping the song, and chiding us until we got it right.

And I say, it's all right.

Cool to have seen Nina Simone. And listen. I've only had one CD and she sounds tired on it. Must hear more.
