Minneapolis to Milwaukee to Michigan
This photo of Justin sums up our weekend of playing softball in Milwaukee. We might as well have slept through our games. Out of four games on Saturday, we won a grand total of zero. We started again bright and early at 8 a.m. on Sunday and after making a conscious effort to NOT go out to the bars and sleep, we lost to a team of Canadian porn stars who still reeked of alcohol. Actually, porn stars isn’t accurate. Far too glamorous. A more accurate term is “icky boys who needed money for drugs and porn watchers aren’t picky.”
But maybe I’m just bitter.
Really, though, it was a great weekend. My legs hurt from chasing fly balls that landed in the parking lot, but my abs also ache from laughing too much. What else can you do when you’re getting creamed by 20 runs except laugh hysterically and make fun of yourselves?
Beside, losing early means there was plenty of time to just hang out with good friends who I see all too rarely, as well as meet some new friends. And it meant there was time to crash a wedding reception in our hotel (it needed the pick-me-up), as well as find unique uses for a DeMarini softball bat. Those are the memories that will last longer than winning or losing. Right?
(More softball pictures: Andy coaching and Greg doing something weird. Adam.)
After bar hopping until 1 a.m. and three and a half hours of sleep, I was up again and on my way to the car ferry, which took off promptly at 6 a.m. and carried me at the swift speed of 40 miles per hour to Muskegon, Michigan. Standing on top of the boat at that speed while half asleep is not an easy thing to accomplish. The wind whipped my already mussed hair back and snapped my jacket behind me. I leaned forward, grabbed the rail with one hand, walked East on the rocking roof and at 6:23 a.m. lifted my camera just long enough to snap this photo of sunrise on Lake Michigan. Pretty, eh?
Now I’m at home in the woods and tired after a long weekend and catching up with family. Tomorrow I have nothing planned except sleep, a haircut (whenever I feel like going), reading and a quick trip to the closest Kinko’s, 25 miles away.
Right now, though, I sleep. Goodnight, Moon.
